Abstract

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Jiří Wolker’s death. One of the highlights of his work is the poem Svatý Kopeček (1921). Our central thesis is that the speaker in Svatý Kopeček is styled as a messiah, which we will support with textual evidence from Svatý Kopeček. By incorporating Christian symbolism into our analysis, we aim to demonstrate that Czech avantgarde also includes elements of hyperbolic-titanic stylization.
