Author Guidelines

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE AUTHORS AND PUBLISHING CONDITIONS

  • ICLR seeks to publish original research papers that make a significant contribution to legal studies in the field of international, Euroepean and comparative law. Discussions, book reviews, notes and information’s are also accepted for publication.
  • No fees or charges are required for manuscript processing or publishing of the papers.
  • Authors are encouraged to submit their articles electronically – via email at editors address: iclr@upol.cz.
  • Sending a manuscript indicates that papers is not actively under consideration for publication with other journals.
  • Recommended extent of manuscripts is:
  • 15–25 pages (27000–45000 characters, including spaces) for articles
  • 2–10 pages (3600–18000 characters, including spaces) for discussions, book reviews, notes and information’s.
  • Manuscripts should be written in English (occasionally in German and French) and must include: title, names, e-mail addresses and affiliations of all authors, abstract (100–150 words), keywords (5–10), introduction, main text and conclusion and list of references in alphabetical order. The preferred format is MS Word (.doc and .docx documents). Text of papers should be properly divided into separate paragraphs; each paragraph starting in a new line. For quotations and notes please, use the automatic function – Insert / Footnote. All notes should be numbered automatically.
  • For footnotes, references and quotations style see journals´ Style Sheet (available at iclr.upol.cz).
  • All manuscripts fulfilling the formal requirements undergo a double blind review process provided by the members of the Editorial Board and two anonymous external reviewers. The double blind process means that neither the author knows the reviewer’s identity nor the reviewer knows the name of the author or other reviewer. The manuscript is accepted, accepted con¬ditionally or rejected on the basis of the reviewers’ suggestions. If accepted conditionally, the author is supposed to correct it while taking the remarks of the reviewers into account and the reviewers are entitled to ask for re-evaluation of the paper. The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief. Finally, accepted manuscripts are edited in accordance with the practices of the journal.
  • Editors reserve the right to refuse any contribution which does not comply with the requirements of form and content or which will be assessed as not suitable for publishing by the reviewer.
  • The editors reserve the right to decide on the need of author’s corrections. If the editor’s office finds there is no necessity of author’s corrections, the author is not authorized to require it.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Privacy Statement

Data Privacy and Protection Statement

The data collected from both registered and non-registered users of the International and Comparative Law Review (ICLR) is consistent with the standard operations of peer-reviewed academic journals. This includes:

  • Information required for communication during the editorial process,
  • Details used to inform readers about authorship and content editing,
  • Aggregated data on readership behaviors, as well as
  • Geopolitical and social data related to scholarly communication.

The editorial team uses this data to manage, publish, and continually improve the journal. Anonymized and aggregated data may also be shared with the Public Knowledge Project (PKP)—the developer of the journal’s publishing platform—for purposes of platform development and enhancement. Appropriate exceptions, such as article metrics, may be included in this sharing. Neither ICLR nor PKP will sell this data or use it for any purpose beyond those explicitly stated here.

Responsibility for Research Data

Authors publishing in ICLR are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with ethical and legal standards concerning human subject data included in their research.

Commitment to Data Privacy Standards

ICLR is committed to adhering to standards for data privacy, including the provisions of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). These provisions include:

  1. Breach Notification: Timely notification in case of data breaches.
  2. Right of Access: Ensuring users can access their personal data.
  3. Right to Be Forgotten: Allowing users to request the deletion of their data.
  4. Data Portability: Providing users the ability to transfer their data.
  5. Privacy by Design: Incorporating data protection into all journal systems and workflows.

The GDPR also acknowledges the public interest in the availability of data, which is particularly relevant to maintaining the public record of scholarly publishing with the utmost integrity.
