Abstract

Children have become the biggest recipients of media content during childhood and the most attractive group for the media industry. That is why we consider it important how they are able to know and understand the media; how to deal with its content and learn that not everything that appears in the media is true or correct. Critical thinking towards forming judgments is discovered in the child in preschool. The reasoning strategies and mental processes used by the child were identified, interpreted in reasoning and in inference, and also supported by the child's interpretations. We investigated whether and how the child is aware of the presented meaning (identification code), whether he can infer the transmitted truth value, and what his interpretations (meaning deviation/inclination) are in the observedstories/advertisements. Grasping, analysing and evaluating the information against the values presented in the story/advertisement demonstrates the attitude of a critical user of media content.
