Abstract

The presented study brings the topic preparatory education for preschool teachers at the tertiary level and their first year in work into the professional diskurse. The aim of the study is to find out how the graduates of the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University are ready or are not ready to practice as the kindergarten teacher, but also how the kindergartens are ready for the novice teachers and how they support them. Research was done through the audio recordings of the three focus groups, data was obtained which was further qualitatively analyzed in Atlas.ti. The results suggest that graduates are well prepared for individualized, differentiated education. On the other hand, respondents feel deficient in communication and administrative skills. These difficulties of beginning teachers among higher education graduates confirm further research findings. Similarly, there is a lack of support for novices by kindergartens.
